Pune: Henkel India hosted senior officials from the Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health (DISH) along with representatives from industries across Kurkumbh MIDC as part of the observance of National Safety Week, reinforcing efforts to strengthen workplace safety across the industrial ecosystem.
The engagement brought together key officials including Sudhir Shinde, Joint Director at the Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health, and Pravin Patil, Deputy Director, along with industry representatives operating in Kurkumbh MIDC.
The interaction focused on building stronger collaboration among companies in the Kurkumbh MIDC industrial cluster to enhance safety standards and regulatory awareness.
The gathering was aligned with this year’s National Safety Week theme, “Engage, Educate, Empower,” highlighting the importance of strengthening workplace safety through awareness, training, and shared responsibility.
During the interaction, Henkel emphasized the importance of closer collaboration among companies in Kurkumbh MIDC, encouraging industries to exchange best practices and learn from one another in areas such as occupational safety, health management, and process safety.

Promoting Workplace Safety Standards Across Kurkumbh MIDC
Sudhir Shinde, Joint Director at the Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health, said, “Collaborative efforts like these help raise awareness, strengthen compliance, and reinforce the shared commitment to ensuring safer workplaces across the industrial ecosystem.”
The event also highlighted the role of industry-led initiatives in promoting workplace safety standards across Kurkumbh MIDC, which hosts several manufacturing and industrial facilities in the Pune region.
Balaji Gopalaswamy, Site Director at Henkel Kurkumbh, emphasized the importance of collective engagement in building a stronger safety culture across Kurkumbh MIDC.
He said, “The theme, ‘Engage, Educate, Empower,’ strongly resonates with our approach to safety. At Henkel, we believe safety is built through continuous engagement with our teams and by learning from each other as industries. Platforms like this allow companies in Kurkumbh MIDC to share expertise across occupational, health, and process safety, and collectively strengthen the safety culture for everyone working in the region.”
Apart from workplace safety practices, the engagement also focused on raising awareness about the new Labour Codes introduced by the Government of India, particularly the Occupational Safety Health and Working Conditions Code, which aims to streamline and strengthen workplace safety regulations across industries.
According to data from the Labour Bureau, India has more than 500 million workers, making workplace safety and regulatory compliance a significant priority for both industry and regulators.
In this context, initiatives such as National Safety Week, led by the National Safety Council of India, continue to play an important role in promoting responsible workplace practices and safety awareness across sectors.
